For those of you who were unable to attend the IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (ISGT) conference in Washington, D.C. this week, reading FierceSmartGrid is as good as being there.

Parks Associates' Smart Energy Summit in San Antonio, TX.

Our team is on the ground at the event to bring you the latest industry news, trends and developments. A significant portion of the focus of IEEE ISGT is on the challenge of electric vehicles and distributed generation on the grid, a topic we at FierceSmartGrid are also focusing heavily on. Per usual, customers are lacking knowledge of both the smart grid and electric vehicles and want more.

In addition to the IEEE ISGT conference, our team is around town also covering the Geothermal State of the Industry and the Climate Leadership Convention, both in D.C.

Over in San Antonio, Texas, we are tracking the trends in consumer engagement and the connected home at Parks Associates' Smart Energy Summit.

One big theme running through both the Smart Energy Summit and the ISGT conference is engaging the consumer, whether in terms of the smart grid or the benefits of incorporating energy management with other home controls. In both cases, the majority of customers are not engaged but do want more information. Along with that information, utilities must deliver an attractive value proposition to the customer. One thing is clear: When it comes to value proposition, there is no one-size-fits-all and those who assume that all customers want the same thing will inevitably fail.
