TAS Energy closes deal for renewable energy growth

TAS Energy has closed a financing deal from California venture capitalist Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers to provide late stage capital to support continued growth in renewables (such as geothermal and waste heat), and energy-efficiency solutions. TAS' heat to power solutions can be used for solar thermal solutions/intermittent power projects.

TAS Energy's low-temperature geothermal expander prior to its installation Nevada. It is now producing more than 2 MW of power using 206F brine.

"Our waste heat and geothermal solutions are base load so they contribute non-intermittent renewable energy to the grid," Gary Hilberg, Executive Vice President of TAS, said in an interview with FierceSmartGrid. "Our turbine inlet chilling solutions allow gas turbines, both peaking and base loaded plants, to generate more power on hot days; this energy can offset some of the intermittent nature of renewable energy. 

"All of our chilled water solutions are designed to work with stratified water thermal energy storage systems which allow our customers to shift peak power usage to the shoulder and off peak periods, providing more load demand when some of the intermittent renewable energy is available," Hilberg said.
